Halia was a spy who used these stealthy animals to gather information, and was also blessed with not only their keen hearing but superb physical capabilities as well. Upon being notified of suspicious activity by her winged companions, she went and eavesdropped from the shadows. The intricacies of covert schemes -- rogue soldiers plotting to murder a superior, for example -- would be divulged to her without the connivers being the wiser.
