The angel Elly normally relieved her tedium through frightening the townspeople by producing loud and sudden gongs from the bells of the steeple, but as their reactions dulled with repetition, she found it no longer held the same appeal. Attempting to find some other form of amusement, she absentmindedly extended a fingertip and traced arcs of color in the air, exercising her ability to create light. As she continued to create scribbles of prismatic radiance, she was oblivious to the stirring of activity below.
