He preferred not to be the center of attention, much less be praised or admired. He wasn't particularly virtuous or skilled, so there was no need for it. But on extremely rare occasions, it might not be a bad thing. Not that he wanted to be celebrated, but it reminded him of the important things in life, such as love and passion.
