Long ago in the western realm of Kald a demonic host settled and covered the skies in miasma poisoned the land and drove its people to madness. The heavens sent forth a lone hero who struck down the demon lord yet fell in battle leaving only a sword embedded in the earth. The host had laid waste to the realm and departed and vanished beyond the horizon but even in that age demons gathered there once more. The hero's sword left behind in sorrow and rage had become a cursed relic a seed of calamity that drew all manner of monsters to it.
