All expected the next captain would be first mate Joman until Burath's will was found to have appointed a galley worker named Ludonaga. She was indeed clever beyond her years, but the idea he would by outranked by a young woman infuriated Joman. The revelation that she was Burath's secret child only riled him further. However, it was imperative the next captain came from Burath's lineage. He himself was half-sea monster, granting him power over the local monsters and mastery of the seas. She shared those gifts, convincing most of the crew to give her the captain's chair. Joman naturally objected and formed a new crew with his sycophants for the purpose of destroying the old one.
